Brad

B-RadG

Bradley is an aspiring comedian and fierce debater. His disarming presence makes him a hard man to disagree with. He is a compassionate humanist who loves connecting with others and watching their values come to fruition. He also hates the use of third person to describe himself, but what can you do about that? But all jokes aside, he is an activist at heart and can’t wait to let his passion impact the world.

What inspires you to volunteer? Knowing that taking a little time out of my day to volunteer can make a positive impact in the community.

Why did you join Passion Impact/What influence has it had on you? I joined Passion Impact because I believe that many students can’t find the resources they need to find volunteering opportunities that they are passionate about. With Passion Impact and their volunteer fairs students can find what they’re passionate about through volunteering.

What do you hope to accomplish in your internship? I hope to get more students to volunteer and to make a difference in the community.

If you could give a word of advice to people who wish to get involved with Passion Impact what would it be? To volunteer for something you wouldn’t normally do because that might become something will inspire you to choose a different career path that you enjoy more.

When she’s not working she enjoys hiking, reading, shopping, and watching Netfilx. Keely also just started working at Starbucks as a barista, where her love for coffee will be fueled!

Hannah CarrHannah comes to Passion Impact from West Linn! She graduated from West Linn High School in 2013 and is about to start her senior year at Marist College in New York. Hannah is studying Political Science with minors in Environmental Policy and Economics. In the future she hopes to live in D.C. or London, working in the public sector through a NGO, political group, or the government. She will be filling the role of Donor Communications and Enhancement this summer. Hannah has been busy updating the donor software and increasing communication to let the community know what PI has been up to! We asked Hannah some questions to get to know her better!

Organizations and Issues She is Passionate About: Democratic Party of Oregon, campus sustainability groups, giving back to others in less fortunate communities, different walks to raise money like for AHA.

What is your favorite memory from volunteering? Meeting other individuals, and learning about other communities, and different cultures. We all may think we come from a somewhat similar background in the U.S. but volunteering reminds me how important it is to step outside of my comfort zone.

What inspires you to volunteer? Giving back to others, knowing that you are having a positive impact in a selfless manner.

Why did you join Passion Impact? To learn about the inner workings of a nonprofit as an educational experience, but also to get more involved in the PDX community, and volunteering in other areas than the political and environmental world.

Hannah enjoys hiking, running, traveling, and exploring new cities in her time off. She spent the past school year studying abroad in both London and Florence.  Hannah also loves UK politics and spends her time catching up on current global events. She considers herself both a city girl and an earthy Oregonian. We are so excited to have Hannah with us this summer!

libbyLibby comes to us from the Beaverton area and is an alumni of Beaverton High School.  She currently attends school in the Greater Philadelphia Area at Villanova University where she is studying Communication and Public Administration. This summer she is filling the role of Volunteer Researcher for Passion Impact. She will be working to expand PI by building a program that creates a unique way for students to reflect on their volunteer experiences.  We asked her a few questions about herself to share with you!

What organizations have you volunteered for? In middle school and high school I helped coach a competitive cheer team for individuals with disabilities. The organization, called Team Shine, was a great experience for me because I had a passion for cheer and enjoyed working with people. This experience sparked my interest in working with individuals with disabilities. This interest carried into college where I volunteer  with Special Olympics. Every year Villanova hosts the largest student run Special Olympics, which draws together the whole school and community. There are a ton of opportunities to get involved and the weekend is alway a blast! In addition I work with a program on campus called Villanova Buddies that partners with individuals with disabilities in the area. We host events that help build community and friendship! Finally, I participated in a service break trip at Villanova through the Office of Campus Ministry.  These groups meet for a few weeks leading up to fall or spring break, culminating in a one week experience off campus either nationally or internationally. In the Fall of ‘15 I went on a trip to Hickory, NC to participate in a Habitat for Humanity build!

What inspires you to volunteer? My passion for volunteering comes from the value I place on community. I thrive off energy from others, so coming together with fellow volunteers and going out into the community really makes me feel alive. I tend to gravitate towards volunteer opportunities that either work directly with people or with creating something. Participating in Habitat for Humanity was a great experience because I got to learn basic construction skills and could instantly see the impact I was making. In the week that I was there my group was able to complete flooring, build and raise all of the internal and external walls all in 5 days. The HFH program requires sweat equity hours for the families who move into the houses. This meant that we got to directly interact on the work site with the future homeowners! We also got to meet a lot of community members from local organizations, churches, and families who are involved with HFH.

Why did you join Passion Impact? I joined Passion Impact because I was looking for an opportunity for the summer to gain professional experience in an area that aligned with my personal interests. One of my favorite parts about attending Villanova University is the focus on service and philanthropy. I wanted to merge this passion with my studies in order to create a service learning opportunity that would provide me with a productive way to spend my summer!

Libby loves going new places and being outdoors. Going to school on the East Coast has allowed her to travel domestically quite a bit and provided awesome opportunities to try new things. It has quite literally fed her obsession with trying new food and cooking. She’s a huge fan of Buzzfeed and Thrillist. Libby also lives and breathes Villanova Basketball; March Madness is her favorite time of year!

What inspires you to volunteer?

I love to benefit the people that surround me.

If you’re interested in meeting new people, volunteering to make your community a better place, and to know you’re going to be a part of something big, then Passion Impact is an organization in which you should consider being involved.

What inspires you to volunteer? The tangible benefits of volunteering keep me motivated.

What do you hope to accomplish in your internship?  I want to launch a successful training program that increases total volunteers through and for Passion Impact.

What is your advice for those who wish to become involved in Passion Impact? If there is not a spot that is appealing at Passion Impact: come talk to Stefan. This is an organization that specializes in finding passions, so come pitch your passion to the team! If you can’t find a spot, make one.
